Types of Golf Bags
Staff Bags/Heavy Weight
Staff bags are the largest, heaviest, and most expensive golf bags on the market. Staff bags typically vary between 8.5 to 11 inches in diameter. These are designed to hold the full complement of 14 clubs, with a large number of storage pockets to hold the rest of your golf equipment - balls, tees, umbrella, shoes, gloves, towels and gadgets. Tour professionals use staff bags, because caddies carry the bags for them. If you always ride a golf cart then you should purchase a staff bag so you can carry more pieces of equipment.
Cart Bags/Medium Weight
Cart bags are smaller, lighter and cheaper than staff bags. Cart bags typically vary between 5 to 8.5 inches in diameter, and achieve reduced weight through use of lightweight materials and fewer storage pockets. If you always ride a golf cart or use a pull cart, then you should buy a cart bag, because it still offers plenty of room for clubs and accessories.
Stand Bags/Light Weight
Stand bags are similar in size and features to cart bags, but have the additional feature of a built in stand mechanism. When the bag is placed on the floor, legs automatically "pop-out" from the side of the bag, so that it stands up by itself while the golfer plays his/her stroke.
Personally, I would choose a stand bag because I like to walk the golf course for exercise and the stand is a practical feature. Furthermore, a stand bag allows me the option to ride a golf cart, use a pull cart, or walk the course.
